"21st Century Schizoid Bear"
The basic energy which lights up this presentation is the desire to understand how masculinities are performed as gender representations inside netpornographic languages in late postmodernism. Such a hypothesis runs through socio-anthropological analysis of the end of gay culture and Bear culture within it, the return of the subversive body and the political perspective of contemporary pornography. This theoretical horizon will contextualize the definition of new masculinities through four fields of netporn research:
1) Dynamic Bear websites and self-representation of masculinity through the concept of the profile as measure unit;
2) Ethnic fetishization as reappropriation of masculinity. The arabear phenomenon;
3) Bull Empire and morphing hyper-masculinization as a Post-Bear experience;
4) Transbears, masculinities through bodies and the evolution of f-to-m transgendered culture.
The presentation is exposed on a double level with live VJ performance by the video artist Infidel. It pretends to be non-exhaustive, partial, open, performative by mixing up theoretical visions with hair and body fluids.
The essay has been published in Italian by the publisher Meltemi Editore inside a collective book entitled "Textures" and in english by The Insititute of Network Cultures inside "The Net Porn Studies Reader".
Francesco WARBEAR Macarone Palmieri
Social Anthropologist, Francesco WARBEAR Macarone Palmieri is an international stimulator of confrontation and exploration in fields such as Cultural studies, Queer theory with a focus on pornography, urban anthropology, media studies, literature, art and emotions sociology, with publishings in the academic field and in the independent scene. WARBEAR founded one of the most activist beargroup in Italy called Epicentro Ursino Romano who produces social aggregation - through electronic music bear parties such as Subwoofer - as theorical research about the concept of masculinity. He gave life to a multi linguistic queer project called Phag Off. Phag Off produces and rides the sexual new wave: cultural Frankenstein, freaks identities, morbid war machines. Phag Off de-constructs inner stereotypes of gay communities and heterocentric power relationship inside the countercultural movements. Phag Off co-produces three Festivals. The Queer Jubilee, Tekfestival, Fe.male. WARBEAR and Phag Off produced "Phaagevuur" a CrossFetish Art event at "Het Vagevuur" (Eindhoven, NL) he participated at the "AHA - Activism Hacktivism Artivism" Conference in Berlin, at "Queering Sound" Festival in Washington DC, U.S.A. as Digital Contributor, to the previous "The Art and Politics of Netporn" in Amsterdam, "C'lick Me Netporn" in Amsterdam, to UEEH 2007 in Marseille as film contributor, to "Homobeat" @ Cassero Gay and Lesbian Center.
Enrico INFIDEL D'Elia
Born as an underground comic author and graduated as a communication scientist, the Infidel has through the years mutated into a terrorist graphical artist for the "Torazine" (now "Catastrophe") magazine. He approached visual communication through different languages being them photography, collages, Scanner Art, Flyer and Poster Art, Gif Art. He actually acts as one of the most influential and representative VJs all over Italy using the Flxer - flash video mixer free software - for many world wide known artists and Parties such as Phag Off, The ultimate queer experience (side by side with WARBEAR), L-EKTRICA, SUBWOOFER. The ultimate bear dance party, MINIMAL ROME, PINK FREUD. The electronic music therapy, TONER, KARPET, MINIMA and the live sets of RODION (Gomma Records). He works with WARBEAR on different projects participating at "Phagevuur" (in collaboration with Het Vagevuur, Eindhoven Nl), and to "C'lick Me, Second Net Porn Conference" in Amsterdam (NL), curating the video imaginary for the presentation "21st Century Schizoid Bear".
